Cycling festival Limburgs Mooiste
By tradition, the cycling festival Limburgs Mooiste takes place at the end of May. Limburgs Mooiste distinguishes itself as a cycling event by its hospitable, burgundian and sociable character. Once again this year, PROM'ES was happy to provide the cycling race numbers and steering plates for the 12,000 participants.
[Case] Cycling festival Limburgs Mooiste
The Heerlen cycling club Grand Ballon organised cycling tours for family and friends. In 1991, the members of this club of friends decided to open up the annual cycling tours to a wider audience. They founded the Grand Ballon Foundation in 1992, which immediately managed to attract 1,500 cycling tourists to the very first Limburgs Mooiste.
Limburgs Mooiste is a cycling festival that takes place in the picturesque landscapes of Limburg and the border region of Belgium and Germany. The organisation targets the broadest possible group of cyclists, who want to deliver an appealing sporting performance in a friendly atmosphere.
In 2025, participants could choose from as many as 12 different routes and distances. Besides the tour rides, there were MTB routes, gravel routes and a family ride. Due to the large number of routes, a maximum number of cyclists per route as well as dispersion between the groups, the 12,000 participants did not cycle through Heuvelland in a polonaise.
Cycling race numbers and steering plates
Limburgs Mooiste is not a competition, but a tour. PROM'ES produced the cycling race numbers and steering plates. The personal race number should be pinned on the back in a clearly visible way and the steering plate should be attached to the handlebars of the bicycle. In this way, cyclists are easily recognisable as participants on the various routes of Limburgs Mooiste.
Cycling is growing
Limburgs Mooiste may continue to grow to 15,000 participants. The organiser of the cycling festival says that with the current number of participants, the event runs smoothly and remains manageable; that is worth a lot. At Limburgs Mooiste, safety and care for the environment are paramount.
Research by the Dutch cycling federation NTFU in cooperation with Ipsos shows that more and more people are cycling, mountain biking and gravel biking. The number of sport cyclists in the Netherlands has increased to more than 900,000. In particular, more and more women are finding their way to the cycling sport: the strongest increase is among women aged between 25 and 35.
The NFTU sees that tours are still popular. Small-scale tours organised by cycling clubs are particularly in demand. Participants appreciate routes where new roads and paths are discovered.
